V's 52 Pick-up || the Jokers

Here we are friends, my last post in 2016's 52 Pick-Up. I absolutely loved working on this project! I'll be sharing a retrospective post in January. But in the meantime, let us look at the Jokers, the last two cards in this deck.

How I love this idea! It is so true.

In my stash of vintage photos, I found this series of men boxing. I can't tell if it's a friendly match or not, but I love looking at them.

I wanted the key to have Sword of Damocles feel to it.

On to Joker 2 and the very last card in this project. It is almost the last phrase in the poem.

I find this to be a striking and perfect ending to my project.

Fragments of life, of happiness and of trials.

I felt that this card should be from a woman's point of view so it was serendipity that I had one Queen card left. The Queen of Hearts too.

Because when you are the end of your life and you take stock, what is truly important? Love.

Thank you.

Get Messy Creative Team Blog Hop

Hello friends. Two posts in one day, but this one is worth it! It is the last collective hurrah of the Get Messy 2016 CT. We have decided to do a blog hop where each one of us talks about how and why another CT member inspires us. And how lucky am I that I got Tanyalee!

I love love love Tlee's style. The way she combines soft watercolours and inks and images totally appeals to me. Her lettering is so dreamy as well.

I love how Tlee combines soft colours with bold imagery, that really helps to bring the message home.

What also makes me run to her blog is the way she shares her techniques is easy to follow tutorials. Whether these are for the Get Messy blog or her own, I always make a point to check them out because I know I'll be able to apply them again and again.

It is a measure of how good a teacher Tanyalee is that you can learn a technique from her and apply it to your style or your materials and still get a result you love.

And here is the best part: I actually got to meet Tanyalee last week. Isn't that amazing? Here is a photo of Emily (@squiggleandswirl) and Tanyalee (@drawingboardau) at the Opera Bar in Sydney.

They both brought some of their journals and we had an art sleepover and even met Eleanor the next day. But what I wanted to mention was the absolute joy I had perusing Tlee's journal for the Season of Dreams. It is amazing to touch the pages, to see the layers in person, to chat about techniques and ideas and inspiration.

I felt so inspired. To try new things, to branch out, to be true to me. That is the best thing and that is my biggest takeaway from being on the Get Messy CT this year: meeting friends who elevate and inspire others, women and artists who support each other in the best ways, without competition or jealousy, only empowerment.

Find Tlee's blog here: http://www.thedrawingboardau.com/
and her insta here: http://instagram.com/drawingboardau

I invite you to go take a look at her blog, she is next in the blog hop.

I know I say it a lot, but I will be forever grateful for this community and the joy of finding my tribe. I was extremely proud to be on the CT in 2016 and very humbled to be returning in 2017 as well. See you then.

Get Messy season of Gifts || 04

The greatest gift that has ever been given to me? Easy:

My life changed when I had my daughter. The experience of carrying her in me and bringing her in the world was indescribable and very empowering for me.

She and my son have both given me so much. I wanted my daughter to look like a magical princess because that is what she is. I love the movement in this spread.

I wanted to incorporate these gorgeous fabric flowers that Becca sent me along with these ribbons on my pages.So the idea of making dresses with them worked well in my mind!

I have no words.

This is what this magical Season feels like to me.

Colour - full.

Happy, light, sparkly.

Full of joy and family and love.

I hope it is the same for each and everyone of you!

V's 52 Pick-Up || 52

I love the contrast in this very short excerpt: 'awful / daring'.

A moment's surrender can indeed lead to very dire and serious consequences.

But sometimes, one needs to take that leap of faith anyway!

I love the look that these newlyweds are sharing.

So 52 cards...but the year isn't over, there is one more Saturday! And so next week we will see the Jokers and thus conclude this project. See you then darlings!

Get Messy season of Gifts || 03

Christmas is in two days! I bet your tree looks like this one:

So many people around me I consider to be gifts. They bring so much to my life and I hope that they feel I do the same for them, even just a little.

I saved the remnants from all the Christmas stockings I made and used them for the gifts in this spread.

The tissue paper with the ornaments really adds to the image as a whole.

And shiny sequins for the win!

My second spread for this week is for the greatest childhood gift I ever received.

Solid Gold was one of my favourite shows as a young girl (yes I am an '80s child!). It featured the Solid Gold dancers doing amazing dances on that week's top of the pop charts songs! If you look at that now...well...the eighties were something that's for sure.

I thought the Barbie I got that year was called Solid Gold Barbie but she is actually called Golden Dreams Barbie. That Christmas was so amazing not only because I unwrapped the most golden Barbie ever, but also because I got a suitcase full of handmade Barbie clothes.

There was a woman on our street who used to make them. I remember there was a leopard coat for her and how I loved it! I kept those Barbie clothes and gave them to my daughter when she was five. But she never liked playing with dolls, she would always just undress them! Now the clothes are with my sister and her daughters so the legacy of that gift continues.

All the fabric pieces on this spread were given to me by Becca and I love them. This is a very glittery spread.

December 30 Days of Lists || 01-16

I have to say that the December edition of 30 days of Lists is my favourite. I love Christmas ephemera and papers so it just makes me so happy to use these in a lovely notebook. Here is the first half of my month.

 I accidentally switched the order of these two prompts!

Well, that is the first half of my month. How is your December documenting going?
