March 30 Days of Lists | 27 to 30

This is my final post for this round of Listing. I loved it. It was really fun to change up my trusted notebook and try something new. I'm enchanted with the result and will try and be as enthusiastic about next September's lists!

See you next time, Listers xx

My travel journal and supplies

I am travelling to Europe next week for work. I am very excited! Of course, I've packed all my artsy things already, ha! Here is a look at my basic travel kit:

I have my Sakura travel watercolors, my water brush and pens, washi tape, travel epehemera and my travel journal. I'll also be bringing a glue stick and my trusty stapler. I won this journal in an online auction from Saturday Morning Vintage. It's really cool, full of old ledger paper, maps, envelopes and vellum.

Some of the pages in this journal are a little thin, so I think I will also bring my clear gesso. Just in case I want some pages to be sturdy enough for some sketching and watercoloring.

Also in my travel supplies: post-its, extra staples, tags and some alpha stickers. I can't wait to fill these pages with found ephemera drawings and musings and then to share my journal with you once I return.

March 30 Days of Lists | 21 to 26

This first list was the best! My husband came back from a two month trip and needless to say we are so happy to have him home! It will be so cool to come back to this notebook in a few years and be reminded of this moment in time.

There are so many places I feel I haven't eaten or tried yet, it's hard to pinpoint my favorites. I love to discover new cuisines when I travel.

V's 52 Pick-up | 13

Last week, Madame Sosostris left our narrator with quite the warning: fear death  by water. At this point in the poem, the narrator seems to change. One of the strong suits of The Waste Land is that it references many other important writings of past centuries. In this case, we are going right into Dante's Inferno.

In Dante's Inferno, Hell is made a series of concentric rings with the most vile at the very center. That circle is reserved for traitors. I feel that is quite fitting, don't you?

Here they are, walking round and round and round. These Austrian children were photographed just before the Second World War erupted. I wonder how many survived? War is also a central theme to the poem, a theme we will explore soon.

The middle circle is a roller coaster ride photographed when it was closed. Is there anything more intriguing than a closed theme park? All those lively, carnival-esque rides sitting quiet and ominous? Sharp edges and grinding metals. Like a sleeping monster. Like a treacherous adult.

These children did not know what was coming. But really, how many of us do?

My Messy Lists journal

Oh you guys, I'm so excited for next month! We are starting our new Season: Messy Lists. This is the collision of two of my favorite creative endeavours : Get Messy and 30 Days of Lists. The cool part is that the Season will be completely different than either of these entities. I agonized (ok, maybe that's a little strong), I thought a lot about what kind of journal I wanted to use. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go big or small, minimal or mixed media.

In the end, I decided to go with the awesome art journal Kate made me:

It has about 40 double pages. Some lists I will do on single pages, others will be on two. It will depend on the art or the journal prompt....and my mood!

The paper is a good mixed media grade and holds watercolor nicely. It is about 5 x 7 when closed. I feel that that is a good size for this kind of project. I'm also looking forward to working smaller.

Look at the cool diamond binding! There is enough space that adding collaged papers shouldn't put too much stress on the spine.

I am super excited for this Season to get underway! If you are a Lister, I hope you'll take the plunge and try Get Messy. You'll see that we are all about inspiration and encouragement here! You can click the links on the bottom of this post to sign up.

Have I mentioned how much I love the V on the cover? I do!

Get Messy Art Journal is an art journaling program/community. We are a group of like minded art journalers who have come together under this art form to learn, share, practice our skills and push past our creative limits with hopes to inspire. Our community values consistent creating, encouragement and support and trying new things. We would love to have you join us as a member of Get Messy Art Journal. Join Get Messy now!

Pocket Pages || February

I got through the whole month of February as a working single parent and survived! My husband left for a two month immersion course and so February was a blur of being the responsible one, getting things done and documenting them in my 2016 album. Yay, me!

I have to say that a bottle of wine shared with a friend is a big help, especially when you are having a bad day!

I used an insert with 4 x 4 pockets to help document that week.

The underside is all about the Superbowl and the Dance Party/ Craft weekend we had.

The next week was busy but quiet, except for Valentine's Day, which was great because I got some flowers from my darling!

We hada big snowstorm that week, 51 cm in one day! It was a record.

When your love is away, there is a lot of Facetiming and sending each other pictures. We are lucky to live in a world where communicating is so easy and timely.

The back of the wintergram insert has some journaling about dealing with my daughter's anxiety or rather helper her deal with it.

The kids had two weeks off in February/March. 2 weeks! It so happens that their first week was also my birthday week. So I took that week off work and we left for Montreal. I had the best time: did my hair, went to all my favorite haunts and saw my friends.

I loved walking around my chosen city and enjoyed discovering new places too.

The Pompeii exhibit was really awesome.

On Friday night, we went out for my birthday, we had some awesome food and great wine too.

I added my kids' birthday cards and love messages to my pages. I loved my silver hair, wish it had stayed that way longer.

This was the poster explaining the Greek wine event at the restaurant. I took it down and had everyone sign it.

On the left, the night of my dinner party and on the right the morning after's brunch!

A grand time was had by all! Alas, all good things come to an end and I had to leave Montreal to go back to Gatineau. Sigh. See you next month for March's pages.
