Get Messy Season of Happy || 01

Oh happy day! The new Season is here, the new website is here! Everything is new and exciting! Let's dive in. Literally.

This is my favorite spread for the week. It is for the no words/happy colors prompt. I really loved this challenge because usually for me, the words are the last step and make my journal page complete. I had to include the stencil I made for the tutorial. You can see that the dabbing method gives you lots of control on how intense the colors are.

I put a mix of my favorite colors and tried to tease some texture out of there too.

I really really love the result. Thank you Julia for coming up with such enticing prompts!

This second spread is my answer to the quote in the prompt. I am definitely an optimist although I have my very pessimistic moments...usually brought on by being too optimistic about something. Funny how that happens, huh?

I wanted the colors to bring energy to the spread. Unfortunately, I didn't have any natural light for taking my photos.

I loved the line drawing idea too. Here is the first one I made. Myself and the sea.

I used a water soluble pencil and ran a wet brush on the marks after I had completed to give it some movement.

Then I decided it needed some color. So I used one shade of blue, one brush and bold strokes, nothing too contrived.

I love the happy accidents that happen when you do this...like the fish above her head...I am a Pisces so this really made my day!

The line drawing was so much fun I decided to do a second one. This one is chock full of details. Some of the elements of my happy place : Mexico, skeletons, papel picado, flowers, mariachi bands, Hong Kong, fireworks, xiao long bao and other dim sum, books, my art journal, art supplies and the sea.

Happy is off to a great start!
